I recently visited Dickens Yard Dental as a new patient and was seen by Dr Sahil. He was extremely friendly and made sure to explain everything in detail, often stopping to see if I had any questions on what he had explained. Overall, it was a very good experience, and I felt that Dr Sahil was very knowledgeable and provided excellent care.

Mr Colin Dunlop

Hygienist

School: Glasgow 2002
GDC Reg No. 5773

Having gained a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in 2000 from Glasgow Dental Hospital, Colin has spent the last 23 years planning, developing and implementing periodontal health and maintenance treatments for his patients. Colin is a dedicated, highly motivated and passionate hygienist with a gentle touch which puts patients at ease.

“I moved to Hanwell around 20 years ago, and am truly embedded into the community. Outside of work, I can usually be found in the local parks and restaurants with my young family. When I have a minute to myself, you can usually find me with my nose in a book or in the kitchen baking.

I really enjoy caring for the gum health of my patients and take great pride in making a difference to the successful outcome of treatments that I provide especially when dealing with chronic periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can often go unnoticed until it is quite advanced. Most people however will notice signs like red swollen gums, bleeding gums, gum recession, tooth sensitivity and bad breath. It’s at this point that I can help to ensure your gums stay healthy.

In addition, to helping maintain a healthy mouth, Colin takes particular care of patients who are having dental implants, cosmetic procedures and orthodontic (braces) treatment”

Frequently asked questions

Gum disease is an infection that affects the gum tissues and tooth bones that ensure your teeth stay where they’re supposed to. Gum diseases, like Gingivitis and Periodontitis are some of the most common causes of tooth loss and should be taken seriously. Since gum disease isn’t usually painful, many people have it in mild to severe forms without knowing. If your hygienist diagnoses your gum disease while it’s still in the early stages, you can treat and reverse it.
To treat and prevent gum disease, brushing, flossing, using mouthwash, and attending regular dental hygienist appointments is vital. Additionally, you need to change lifestyle factors, such as minimising sugar intake and quitting smoking.
Gum disease can cause a wide array of harmful symptoms, such as bad breath, darker teeth, staining, bleeding gums, tooth mobility, infections, and tooth loss. Gum disease can also affect your general health, with studies showing links to Diabetes, Heart Disease, Alzheimer’s.
Air polishing is the process of removing stains and plaque and polishing your teeth using a wand that applies a blend of water, air pressure, and fine powder particles to your teeth for maximum teeth-cleaning results.
Seeing a dental hygienist often is vital if you want to prevent gum disease, bad breath, teeth staining, tooth loss, and physical illnesses like heart attacks and strokes. A dental hygienist will also check for signs of future dental problems, such as broken fillings and harmful oral cancers, so you can detect and treat any issues while still in the early stages.
We recommend that you book an appointment with one of our dental hygienists at our Ealing clinic every 6 months to keep your teeth in the best shape possible.
